As a business owner, you likely know how important it is to have a strong presence across social media platforms so you can find and market yourself to potential clients. When it comes down to creating content and finding a strategy that actually gets your message in front of the people who need it most, you might find yourself a bit confused. Honestly, you aren’t alone. There is so much conflicting advice out there about what will and won’t work on various platforms that it can make your head spin.
Don’t sweat it! I’ve got 6 tips to keep in mind to grow your social media, no matter what platform you’re on, organically so you can scale your business and get in front of the audience that resonates with you the most:
- Know your Ideal Client Avatar (ICA) and where they are showing up
Your ideal client has a platform that they prefer more than any other. Do you know what it is? If you take some time to get clear on where your audience is actually hanging out and show up where they are at, you are already leaps and bounds ahead of your competition. Be careful and make sure you aren’t only where you want to be. For example, your favorite platform might be Instagram, but if your ideal client is focused more on networking and big business, it is likely they are focusing on LinkedIn instead, so pushing out content on Instagram isn’t serving your business.
- Use hashtags that they will actually search for
Once you figure out where your ideal client is, it is time to start thinking like them. Using relevant hashtags sounds simple enough, but this might require you to dig a little deeper and think back to when you were in their shoes. If you were just starting out in your field, what hashtags or keywords would you be looking up? For example, use simple terms instead of industry-specific terms if you are looking to connect with beginners or people with entry-level knowledge.
- Make sure your copy is eye-catching
Think back to grade school and utilize hooks as much as possible. Whether you’re prompting them with a question, using statistics to back up what you’re about to say, or adding catchy words, your client’s eyes will be stopped in their tracks mid-scroll. Taking this step will give them a reason to want to read more! The more they’re willing to read, the more likely they are to form a bond with you and want to purchase something from you.
- Balance selling and genuine connection
At the end of the day, getting your name or your business out there is important for sales, but you have to be sure that you are balancing how much you’re trying to sell with how much help or advice you’re giving. Giving advice or helping your clients with tidbits for free helps establish that you know what you’re doing and will make a great impression on them. When they’re ready to buy, they’ll already know and trust you! Unless you’re a big brand name already, people are significantly less likely to buy from you unless you’ve established yourself as an expert at something they need.
- Show your face!
Regardless of your business being based in services or product sales, people want to know there is a real person to connect with. By taking the time to show your face in your posts and/or show up live on video in reels or stories you can add some personality and humanity to your business and increase your ICA’s connection with you.
- A picture is worth a thousand words
No seriously, I know this sounds so cheesy but your picture choices for your posts matter. Think about your own scrolling habits, are you going to stop and engage with something that isn’t nice to look at? No way.
Before you tell me that you can’t afford a designer to create custom posts for you or a photographer to do a brand shoot for you, check out these template packs or Pixistock’s stock photos. They can help you establish your brand and stay aligned with it at an affordable rate.
