4 Parts of Instagram That Are Seldomnly Discussed

There are so many parts of Instagram that we feel are seldmonly discussed. We all know about stories, bio, feed, profile, etc. but what about how to keep your account secure, how to stop bots, and how to get music that everyone is getting but you aren’t?

We are going to break down 4 areas of Instagram that we often see people ask the same questions over and over again or that we don’t see people use often.

Spam/Bot Accounts

Are you seeing this on your Instagram or others?

It’s annoying right? What if we told you there was a way to reduce spam? You are going to keep getting them but we don’t have to see it because we are going to hide them.

If you go to our agency’s Instagram page and go to the highlight “spam/bots” you can see a video of us walking you through how to reduce this. Trust us we have seen very little spam come through and when it does we immediately add it to our list.

Here is how you are going to stop seeing spam comments:

  1. Go to your profile
  2. Click on the 3 lines in the top right hand corner
  3. Go to Settings
  4. Click on Privacy
  5. Go to where it says Hidden Words
  6. Click continue if it asks
  7. Turn on Hide Comments
  8. Turn on Hide message Requests
  9. You can turn on Advanced Comment Filtering if you want
  10. Under Custom words and phrases to to manage custom words and phrases
  11. Add the words you keep you seeing like Promote, Send this Pic, Get Followers (I have a list under my story highlights)
  12. Go back and turn on hide comments
  13. Voila! You will see less spam comments.

Now keep in mind you will sometimes see 1 comments, 2 comments and yet nothing is there. Don’t worry that was a spam comment and since we hid it we won’t see it but it still shows there is a comment there.

Limited Music Availability

We see this so many times where people are confused as to why they have access to limited music on their or their clients accounts. This makes it hard for Reels, trending sounds and being able to just use background music for a voiceover. To be honest the limited music is well let’s say not really good.

What if we told you there was a way around this? This one is so easy you are going to be shocked!

Here is how to get more variety to your music library:

  1. Go to profile
  2. Click on edit profile
  3. Where it says “category” change to Entrepreneur
  4. Voila! You have more music selection

We told you it was going to be easy. Plus you can go a bit further down to “profile display” and hide the category if you want to. We have it hidden on ours. We have enough things going on in our bio. But this is up to you if you want to keep it hidden or not. Test it and see if you like the way your profile looks with or without it.

Secure Your Instagram Account

A lot of people are getting their Instagram accounts hacked and it’s sad and discouraging. Did you know a couple of months ago Disney got hacked? It was only for a couple of hours but it got hacked. So it made me feel none of us are safe! But there are things we can do to protect our accounts.

  1. Never give out your password to anyone. You can use a password protector like “Lastpass” if you need to give access to let’s say a team member
  2. Go to your profile
  3. Click on the 3 lines in the top right hand corner
  4. Click on Settings
  5. Go to Security
  6. Go to Two-factor authentication and choose how to get a login code. We know this can be annoying but it’s better to take two minutes to get a code then to lose your account.
  7. If you get an email from Instagram DO NOT CLICK on the link. You can go to Security and under emails from Instagram see if they sent you an email.
  8. The latest hack is people on Instagram you follow getting hacked and then sending you an email that says if you can verify me I’ll get my account back. DON’T CLICK! Once you do this it will hack you too.

Moral of the story is to not click on links!

We hardly ever see people using guides on Instagram. Simply because some people don’t know it’s there or it’s another added thing they have to do but we love guides.

What are guides? Guides are a collection of posts. If you are a product-based business you can use Guides to create a gift guide. If you are a service based business you can create guides that would be like a blog. Think of your pillars. For example if we write about content repurposing, those posts go under Guides and is titled, “Learn how to repurpose content.” Then you can see all the posts we’ve made on this subject. We also have one called “content tips and hacks.”

This one is easy and walks you through it and it’s great marketing tool on Instagram.

Instagram has so much to offer. Take time to look over all the features and mess around with it. Instagram is supposed to be fun even if it is for business so take advantage of all it has to offer.
